Report on the 19 Bodies of alleged illegal miners found.
Gauteng police have allegedly confirmed that bodies of 19 suspected illegal miners have been discovered in Krugersdorp on the West Rand. Not so long ago Krugersdorp was in the news after a group of a filming crew was robbed and girls repeatedly raped by a gang of alleged illegal miners.
The shocking findings were reported by the media after it was apparently confirmed by the police on Wednesday afternoon. According to the reports, police in Gauteng confirmed that on Wednesday at around 3pm, members from SAPS Krugersdorp responded to a call following the discovery of 19 bodies of alleged illegal miners in one of the active mines in the area.
The identity of the diseased has not been revealed as it might not yet yet be known. It has also not yet been clarified on what could have been the cause of death for the alleged zama zamas.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili said, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased were moved and placed where they were discovered. No foul play is suspected at this stage and post mortem will determine the course of death.”
She added that “all the necessary role players were summoned to the scene. An inquest docket has been registered for further investigation.”
Illegal miners are known to be partaking in very risky activities. They form part of the people who are feared very much within our communities because they are believed to be resourcefully armed and dangerous. They are also accused of causing terror within the mining communities because of the illegal activities they engage in.
South Africans has responded with shock and disappointment to the reports. Most of them complain about how lawlessness is becoming dominant in our country. Following the last Krugersdorp scandal one wouldn’t swear that illegal mining activities are operating just before even 6 months could pass.
Pholo on social media said, “8 women were violated by these zama zamas, never got justice, and you telling me that it’s still business as usual for these barbaric illegal miners. Government and SA Police Service are well aware of this? South Africans, the law is in your hands.”
Also expressing disappointment another user said, “It is fine with me, except that it exposes the level of lawlessness in SA and the lack of law enforcement. The same government which seems to think they can protect us against a terror attack can’t deal with known foreign illegal miners.”
