DJ Sbu (born Sibusiso Leope; 28 May in 1977 in Tembisa) is a South African television and radio host. He has made notable impacts in the industry and his works speak for him. During his working time at YFM, he made credible impacts.

He joined the Johannesburg-based radio station in 2005 and worked until 2010.  Over the years, he has managed to build not only his profession but his name. The experience he has gathered so far has been handy in making him remain relevant.

Dj Sbu was born Sibusiso Leope on 28 May 1977 in Tembisa, a township in the north of Kempton Park, East Rand, Gauteng. He was welcomed into the family of Mothlegi Leope and Ntombizodwa Mothlegi Leope.

Both parents played a huge role in raising their child until he grew to be an independent man. For his secondary school studies, he relocated to Pretoria.

The journey of his academic pursuit began at Welamlambo Primary School. After completing his basic studies, he furthered at Central Secondary School, Pretoria. Sbu studied Sound Engineering at African Media University.

This helped gain him more academic experience and exposure. After graduating, he attended Technikon Witwatersrand University. After a four-year study, he graduated with a certificate in electrical engineering.

His profession in broadcasting dates back to the late 90s. DJ Sbu got a job at a community radio station – Tembisa Info Radio in 1998.  He spent a year and six months being a producer and host on weekend shows.

After leaving the radio station, Sibusiso joined the Johannesburg-born radio station YFM in 2000. At his new place of work, he produced and hosted the weekend show – Beauty and the Beast with Angela Ludek.

With his vast experience in producing, he tried out producing other things. He is the brain behind the film – Hang Time (2000). Sibusiso was also featured on the soap opera Generations in 2000 connecting him to other TV series producers.

Still, in 2000, he did an advert for Toyota Tazz. Sibusiso also appeared in a commercial for World Online. In 2001, he was featured in another television series Isidingo and played the starring role in a drama TV series – It Rained Last Night. A monthly column in YFM created him with the opportunity to publish his writings in 2001.

As a Disk Jockey, he held performances in the Vinyl Experience Meltdown Competition on Fridays.  He is the presenter behind the SABC1 broadcast talent search youth show, Gumbi Fire. Leope later hosted the reality show – Friends Like These and co-owned the independent label TS Records.

In 2005, Leope was announced to be the new presenter for the show Y-Lens on YFM. Later, he moved to the national station Ukhozi FM. However, he left the Durban-based SABC-owned radio station for YFM after a short period.

House And Cars

DJ Sbu has amassed many properties and possessions of luxury. Among his expensive belongings is a stylish home worth R8 million. In 2014, the musician’s property was featured on Top Billing.

More on his expensive possessions are cars of luxury he has reportedly driven including a Porsche Boxster, a Range Rover Sport, and a red Aston Martin Vantage.

During an interview session with IgnitionLIVE, he shared that he had sold his cars of luxury. His purpose for selling them was to focus on building MoFara. He then drove around in a BMWX1.

Business

With Thembinkosi, he co-owned the now-defunct record label TS Records. The label was known to sign big names in the music circle. However, the label developed negativity leaving the owners with the decision of shutting it down. Even after the label was shut down, he furthered his business profession.

He established a strong business background by founding MoFaya. The energy drinks attracted investors with like minds like Coca-Cola, to whom twenty-six percent of the production was sold.
