His acting career Siyabonga happens to be among the top and controlled actors South Africa has ever had. He started his career way back in the year 1989. After a few trials here and there in the industry, he finally made his entrance in 1996. The actor was assigned a role in the 1996 movie titled Born Free: A New Adventure. Indeed, this movie was a blessing to him. It is in the same year that he was invited to play a role in a television series known as Tarzan and the Scarlet Diamond: S1 to S5.
In 1998, Thwala turned down the role of Godlieb Mofokeng in SABC3 soapie Isidingo. The turned it down because he wasn’t ready for a long-term commitment to TV. In a compromising way, he agreed to play the lesser role of J for a short time.
Thwala appeared in six episodes in the recurring role of Jimmy on the second (2nd) season of the SABC1 drama series Gaz’lam in 2003. He played the role of Dali in the well-known SABC1 drama series entitled Soul City.
In 2005, he played the role of newspaper publisher Vusi Zwane on e.tv soapie, Scandal. Thwala left Scandal in February 2007 while his character continued in the movie and was killed off in May.
In the same year (2007), he appeared as Kenneth Mashababa’s brother Paul in the SABC1 drama series Generation. He played the role for 3 years (until 2010). Still, on his acting career, he starred as Mpiyakhe Zungu, a high profile taxi boss, in the Mzansi Magic telenovela-turned-soapie, Isibaya.
