The South African football fraternity is still digesting Mamelodi Sundowns’ decision to reconfigure their technical team wherein Manqoba Mngqithi was the only one had a demotion.

Although there seemed to be an ambiguity in the coaching setup since the departure of Pitso Mosimane, Mngqithi seemed to have been the one who held more responsibility hence his demotion in the wake of the team’s inconsistencies this season.
Meanwhile, his agent, Mike Makaab told Gagasi FM yesterday that his client did not cry foul at the club’s decision and will serve his new role without any qualms.

“The coach is not at all disappointed. I spoke to him and he is a very sensible man who has accepted the decision as it was clear that the team was not performing at the highest level. He definitely supports the management’s decision,” Makaab said.

Makaab also shared some interesting details regarding Mngqithi’s contract with the Chloorkop-based side, apparently his contract expires at the end of the season, and it remains unclear if the club will open talks to discuss new terms or not.

That being said, considering this development, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Mngqithi’s contract is not renewed at the end of the season, which is why one feels a club such as Kaizer Chiefs should really consider him as a possible replacement for the already underfire Arthur Zwane.

Zwane and his Chiefs team were knocked out of the MTN8 cup by AmaZulu on Sunday, and there is already simmering discontent among Chiefs fans that he should be relieved of his duties for a much more experienced coach, and Mngqithi fits the bill squarely, hence Kaizer Motaung Sr. should swoop for him given the opportunity.
What do you make of Mngqithi’s situation at Downs, do you think Chiefs should consider him if they dispense with Zwane’s services?
