Taking to Instagram, Somizi shared a clip he recorded in one of his bathroom talk sessions but had held out on posting.
“Recorded this yesterday and decided not to post it. I watched it this morning and it felt like I was listening to something I’ve been needing to hear. It felt so good.
In the clip, Somizi opened up about taking charge of his mental health.
“This condition doesn’t choose your financial status, doesn’t choose a race, gender, sexuality when it’s attacking; it’s attacking. What I’m doing now is dismantling it the power that it thinks it has by one talking about it.
“Now that I can recognize it, don’t deny it, but don’t glorify it. Recognize it and say, ‘I see you and I’m going to do something about it’.”
Somizi said last year no-one was immune to depression.
“I sometimes also remember days when I wake up and I wish I never woke up. That is when you know you [are] either depressed or you are going through a lot of things and you wish you want to throw in the towel. And that is when again I am grateful for the spirit that I have. That 10% of that positive mindset is very important.”
