Though he is simply known as the young gentlemen who clean up one of Mzansi’s most loved entertainers, Somizi Mhlongo, off his feet, Mohale Motaung is successful in his own right. Having been given a hot time by social media users who named him a gold-digger and alleged that he was misusing his remoteness to the reality TV star and Idols SA judge to propel his own acting career. It seems Motaung is finally stepping out of his famous lover’s shadow.

Even though same-sex marriage is legal in South Africa, many homosexual people still face huge shame and discrimination. In an interview conducted with online publication News24 last year, Mohale revealed that he had dated women when he was still confused about his sexuality, before coming out of the closet and dating and eventually marrying TV Royalty, Somizi who’s also known by his fans as Somgaga.
“I dated girls for the sake of dating. I knew I wasn’t attracted to girls, but I didn’t know what it was called.” It was only when he started studying at Tshwane University of Technology in 2016 that he became comfortable with his sexuality. “I was no longer under my parents’ roof. I was free. And I started exploring. I met like-minded people. I accepted I’m gay and started loving who I am”
Somizi and Mohale reportedly met in September 2017 and early 2018, Somizi proposed to Mohale during a romantic evening at Pont des Arts in Paris overlooking the Eiffel Tower. After two years Mohale Motaung married TV star Somizi Mhlongo in a traditional wedding in 2019 followed by a white wedding this year in January 2020.
