SASSA increased income for R350 applicants
It’s been two years and months following the introduction of the R350 SASSA Grant by the president of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. The COVID-19 Grant was introduced in the beginning of 2020 following the pandemic and the impact it had on the people of South Africa.
Many people lost their jobs due to the pandemic. The president of the Republic of South Africa and his committee decided to introduce the grant to help the poor and those with no income to survive. Approved beneficiaries have been receiving the grant for the past two years and months as of today.
However, after the coronavirus restrictions have been eased the past few months. The department of Social security and SASSA hardened the qualifying criteria since the pandemic is almost over and people have been allowed to go back to their hustling ways.
When the pandemic started, almost everyone who was not in the uif system was receiving the grant. However, when the grant was introduced again for the current year of 2022/2023. The new qualifying criteria was introduced. People who receives more than 350 into their bank accounts were disqualified from qualifying for the grant. Only few people who did not get any income was allowed to receive the grant.
SASSA has revealed on their Twitter page yesterday that. They have increased their threshold from R350 to R624. Which simply means that, people who receives R624 endless amount bank account qualified to apply for the R350 grant. Any South African citizens who have an income of less than R624 monthly, can now apply for the grant after the introduction of the new qualifying criteria by the South African social security agency.
